GREEN LANTERN and my Mixed Emotions

This is another one of those films that has been waited on for too long. From dropped directors to dropped scripts to dropped actors. Now director Martin Campbell helms the GREEN LANTERN starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/The Green Lantern, coming to theaters this summer.
As my love for Marvel comics grew, my initial love for DC comics kind of subsided. Having said that, I was always a fan of The Green Lantern. I loved that all his power came from his imagination and that the objects he would come up with, huge baseball bat, chainsaw, fly swatter, would always be kind of silly yet it would always be effective. If you are not familiar with the story of GL, please take this time out to learn a lil' sumthin sumthin.

Hal Jordan is a pilot for the United States Air Force. One day he witnesses an alien air craft crash land. The alien being inside, named Abin Sur is apart of an intergalactic team known as the Green Lantern Corps. In Abin Sur's last living moments he recruits Hal Jordan as his replacement. Hal must prove himself to the other Green Lanterns due to the fact that there has never been a human Lantern before.

I like Ryan Reynolds and I believe that when he really tries, his acting can be very surprising. Kind of the same way I feel about Chris Evans. It just seemed kind of weird to cast him as Hal Jordan. In the trailer it seems like he's kind of a wise cracker/smart ass but it doesn't sit well with me. And the fact that the suit is totally CG doesn't make it any better. As for the other characters they seem almost exactly how I would picture them if they were real. So, in any case, I am definitely going to see this film and try not to give my hopes up but it seems that I will enjoy it either way.

Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison)
Tomar-Re (John Larroquette)
Sinestro (Mark Strong)
Kilawog (Dennis Haysbert) and Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds)
